Franklin, TN Dental Implants

If you’ve suffered the loss of one or more teeth, you may be curious about your options in tooth replacement. Dental implants are a natural-looking restorative solution that protect not only the beauty of your smile but the health of your jaw as well.

What are Dental Implants?

Diagram showing how the crown, abutment, and screw fit together to form a complete dental implant that takes the place of a natural tooth.Dental implants are artificial teeth that are surgically installed in the jawbone. As shown in the diagram to the right, they consist of a crown fitted on top of an abutment, which attaches to the screw anchored into the bone. When completed by a highly skilled cosmetic dentist, the result is a beautiful restoration that looks and functions as a natural tooth. Dr. Weber, the only accredited cosmetic dentist in Franklin, loves providing these restorations for his patients.

The Benefits of Dental Implants

Because they are firmly secured deep within the bone, dental implants are the strongest replacements for missing teeth. Also, unlike bridges, these restorations function independently, eliminating the need for additional work on adjacent teeth.

And when many teeth are missing, dental implants serve the essential function of preventing jawbone deterioration. Severe tooth loss signals to the body that the jawbone is no longer needed to support teeth, and the body responds by disintegrating the jawbone over time so that the minerals can be used elsewhere. But the presence of screws implanted within the bone signals to the body that the jawbone is still functioning, thus preventing the process of bone resorption. Our Process

When you’re ready to move forward with tooth replacement, your first step will be to schedule an appointment for a dental exam. During the exam, Dr. Weber will compile the information needed to determine which restorative solution is best for you. This will involve performing scans and examining your medical history, as you must be in good health with sufficient bone quality in order to be a candidate for dental implants. Sometimes, bone grafting may be needed.

If you qualify for this procedure, you will be referred to a board-certified oral surgeon who will install the screw at the precise location determined by Dr. Weber. After surgery, we will wait a few months to allow your bone to fuse to the implant, a process called osseointegration. Dr. Weber will then custom-design the crown, taking great care to ensure that the aesthetic quality of the end result beautifully blends in with the surrounding teeth. This is particularly essential when the replaced tooth is part of your smile. In these cases, Dr. Weber will custom-design the abutment as well so that its size and shape best facilitate the natural look of the crown. The crown will be meticulously crafted out of porcelain by a trusted ceramist working in close communication with our office.

At the conclusion of the healing period, Dr. Weber will see you to install the abutment and crown. When your friends can’t tell which one of your teeth has been replaced, you will have experienced the benefit of using an accredited cosmetic dentist to perform your dental restorations.
